Laboratory Pathology

Shortly after arriving at Valley Hospital, a laboratory assistant may take a blood sample to help the doctor diagnose and follow your treatment progress.

The hospital's Laboratory and Pathology Services department performs or coordinates all necessary testing of blood, body fluid and tissue pathology specimens. The results from these tests assist your doctor with your care.

Medical Technologists who are college graduates and have completed a specialized laboratory internship run the tests requested by your doctor. These highly trained healthcare professionals work under the supervision of a board-certified pathologist. The laboratory is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide quality patient care. Most tests requested are completed within a few hours. More specialized tests may take longer to complete.

If you have questions about the tests being performed, we encourage you to ask your physician.

Pathology Services

During your hospital visit, your physician may perform a procedure to remove a sample of your tissue or blood. A pathologist, a physician that examines tissue specimens, analyzes these samples. Although you may not have direct contact with this specially trained consultant, the pathologist plays a crucial role in determining your diagnosis and subsequent treatment.

The pathologists at Valley Hospital have been at the forefront in the diagnosis and analysis of developmental abnormalities. The pathologists offer your physician a full range of diagnostic services including cytology, surgical pathology and cytogenetics to list a few.
