Diagnostic Testing

Valley Hospital continues its commitment to cancer diagnosis and treatment with the purchase of a breast MRI machine. The greatest value in using MRI is to guide the choice of therapy. Breast MRI is extremely sensitive. In women with known breast cancer that is thought to be localized, breast MRI may find other lesions or another cancer in the other breast. That calls for a more aggressive therapy. The ability to optimize the initial therapy can really make a difference for those women.

Types of Therapy

  Chemotherapy/Biotherapy
Chemotherapy/Biotherapy, which is also given on an inpatient or outpatient basis, is the use of drugs to treat cancer. These drugs destroy cancer cells by stopping them from growing or multiplying at one or more points in their cell cycle. Because some drugs work better together than alone, chemotherapy may consist of more than one drug. This is called combination chemotherapy. Chemotherapy may be used in combination with surgery and/or radiation therapy and may be palliative or curative.
