Outpatient Services

During our last expansion, we created a wonderful space to house our many outpatient services and pre-surgical activities. With a large waiting room for you and companions, centralized services and private rooms, it was designed with the patient in mind. And we’re still listening:  We are currently working with physicians’ offices and streamlining processes to avoid unnecessary wait times for our patients.

Did you know?

Herbal supplements should never be taken before surgery; in fact, the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) recommends stopping supplements at least two weeks before surgery.

Approximately 60 million Americans a month have heartburn, according to the National Institute of Health (NIH). Heartburn can also be one of the main symptoms of a serious condition called Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease or GERD.

Surgical Assessment Clinic (SAC)

We want your surgery to be as safe as possible, as does your surgeon. You are asked to come to the hospital, if possible, before the day of surgery for assessment to make sure you are ready. For example, are you on blood thinners? Are you taking herbal medications that should be stopped two weeks prior to surgery? Does your history make an EKG a good idea? Our staff will do this assessment and gather any tests or materials so that the anesthesiologist, surgeon, or staff can take any precautions necessary for your safety.

Preoperative Check-In

You will return to Outpatient Services are to check in on the day of surgery, whether you will be staying overnight or not. Staff will start an IV and you will meet your anesthesiologist.  Bring a companion if you wish; he or she will be able to stay with you almost until you go into the surgery suite. They may wait here while you have your procedure. Your family will be given an update after the procedure. If you are not staying the night, you will be returned to this area to fully wake up, receive discharge instructions and get ready to go home.

Infusion Services

If you need a transfusion, IV fluids, or chemotherapy, you will be treated in Outpatient Services area. Our staff and privacy will make this treatment as pleasant as possible.

Procedures

Common procedures done in the Outpatient Services area are “scopes” to view in the inside of your body. Here are some examples:

  • Upper endoscopy uses a thin, flexible tube and scope to look inside the esophagus, stomach and part of the small intestine.  Sedation is often used during this procedure.
  • Colonoscopy uses a narrow, flexible instrument to look at the large intestine and part of the lower small intestine.  Sedation is often used during this procedure.
  • ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) is similar to the upper endoscopy, but also uses dye to study the ducts of the gallbladder, pancreas and liver.  Sedation is also used during this procedure.
  • Endoscopic Ultrasound uses sound waves to gather more information about an area of disease inside the GI tract.  This information is used to choose the best treatment plan.
  • Bronchoscopy examinations view the upper part of the respiratory system to look for damage, disease or abnormalities using a thin tube and scope.
